Pacifica or Coinbase International: which to use

Pacifica vs Coinbase International is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On Pacifica you trade from a self-custody wallet without ID, at 1.5 bp maker and 4 bp taker. Coinbase International holds your funds in an account, requires ID and a suitability check, and charges 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker. Both offer up to 50x and hourly funding. Coinbase International lists 131 perp markets against Pacifica's 77. Custody, ID and market count decide it for most traders.

How each exchange is built

Pacifica is a decentralized exchange (DEX) on Solana. It matches orders on a central limit order book. You trade from a self-custody wallet, so you hold your own funds.

Coinbase International is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It also matches orders on a central limit order book.

The cost table above reads each exchange's live order book for slippage. The difference for you is custody. On Pacifica you sign trades from your wallet. On Coinbase International you log in to an account.

Fees and what they mean

Pacifica's base tier is 1.5 bp maker and 4 bp taker, per Pacifica's fee page. Coinbase International's base tier is 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, per Coinbase International's fee page.

The taker rate is the same. A market order pays it to open and again to close: 8 bp per round trip on both. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 1.5 bp on Pacifica and 2 bp on Coinbase International. The gap shows up only for traders who use limit orders.

Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage, the price you move by eating through the order book, grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above includes both at each size from $1k to $5M, and every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Coinbase International lists 131 active perps, 34 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Pacifica lists 77, 24 of them real-world assets. Coinbase International has more markets in total and more real-world asset markets.

Both exchanges allow up to 50x on their highest-leverage market; most markets allow less. Both pay funding every hour on every market. An hourly interval means a position settles funding 24 times a day. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

Pacifica asks for no ID. It blocks the US, Canada, the UK, China, Russia, Ukraine, the Philippines and sanctioned countries.

Coinbase International requires ID and a suitability check. Its perps are for eligible non-US countries, and they are not for US or UK retail.

Check your country against each rule before you plan around either exchange.

Points, token and vaults

Pacifica has no token yet. Its points and airdrop program status was "Active" as of 19 September 2026, and points programs and token launches across exchanges are tracked on one page. arb.sh tracks no vault run by Pacifica.

Reading the numbers on this page

Pacifica publishes open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. Coinbase International publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Pacifica's figure reads about twice as large. The open interest row and chart above are therefore not a like-for-like comparison of size.

Coinbase International publishes no TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange. The TVL row and chart show Pacifica alone, as DefiLlama's figure for the exchange.

Which one fits you

  • Pick Coinbase International if you want more markets: 131 against 77, with 34 real-world asset markets against 24.
