Bitget or Coinbase International: which to use

Bitget vs Coinbase International is a choice between breadth and a lower taker fee. Bitget lists more perp markets and goes up to 150x, with a 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker base tier. Coinbase International charges 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, allows up to 50x, and pays funding every hour on every market. Both are centralized exchanges that require KYC. Traders who want the most markets, more real-world assets or higher leverage fit Bitget. Traders who place market orders and want a lower taker fee or hourly funding fit Coinbase International.

How each exchange is built

Bitget is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It matches orders on a central limit order book. Coinbase International is also a CEX with an account that holds your funds, and it also matches on a central limit order book. Because both are built the same way, the difference between them is in fees, markets and access, not in how orders are matched.

Fees and what they mean

Bitget's base tier is 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker, per Bitget's fee page. Coinbase International's is 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, per Coinbase International's fee page.

The maker rate is the same on both. A limit order that rests on the book pays 2 bp on either exchange. A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close: 12 bp per round trip on Bitget and 8 bp on Coinbase International.

Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the taker fee twice to the slippage read from each live book at $1k, $10k, $100k, $1M and $5M. Every exchange's trading cost is also compared on one page.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Bitget has 862 active perpetual markets, 345 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Coinbase International has 131, of which 34 are real-world assets. If you want perps on stocks, commodities or FX next to crypto, Bitget has the larger list.

Bitget offers up to 150x on its highest-leverage market and Coinbase International up to 50x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the limit on the market you plan to trade.

Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. Coinbase International pays it every hour on every market. Bitget pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times, so a position held through a high rate pays or earns it in smaller, more frequent steps on an hourly market. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

Both exchanges require KYC. On Bitget, KYC has been mandatory since September 2023, and unverified accounts can only withdraw and close positions. Coinbase International asks for ID and a suitability check, and its perps are for eligible non-US countries, so US and UK retail traders are excluded.

Token

Bitget's token is $BGB.

Reading the numbers on this page

Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions, so the open interest row and chart above compare like with like in how they are counted. Differences in size still depend on the live figures, which the Head to head table shows.

Neither exchange publishes TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart have no figure for either. The market lists further down show which assets only one of them has, and the BTC page shows every exchange that lists BTC.
