Binance or Coinbase International: which to use

Binance vs Coinbase International is two centralized exchanges that hold your funds in an account and match orders on an order book. Three facts decide it for most traders. Coinbase International charges 4 bp taker against Binance's 5 bp, with the same 2 bp maker. Binance lists 783 perp markets against 131, and allows up to 150x against 50x. Coinbase International pays funding hourly on every market, while Binance's interval varies by market. Pick Binance for market count, real-world assets and leverage. Pick Coinbase International for the lower taker fee and uniform hourly funding.

How each exchange is built

Binance is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Coinbase International works the same way. Both match orders on a central limit order book, so you trade against other traders' resting orders.

What do the fees mean for market and limit orders?

Binance's base tier is 2 bp (0.02%) maker and 5 bp (0.05%) taker, per Binance's fee page. Coinbase International's base tier is 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, per Coinbase International's fee page. Binance's stock and commodity perps (TradFi perps) charge regular users 0 maker and 0.04% taker, "until further notice" as of 29 September 2026.

A market order pays the taker fee twice, once to open and once to close. That is 10 bp per round trip on Binance's crypto perps and 8 bp on Coinbase International. A limit order that rests on the book and fills later pays the maker fee, 2 bp on both exchanges. On Binance's TradFi perps a resting order pays nothing and a market order pays 4 bp each way.

The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the taker fee twice and the measured slippage at each size from $1k to $5M. Every exchange's execution cost is also compared on one page.

How many markets, how much leverage, how often is funding paid?

As of 1 October 2026, Binance lists 783 active perpetual markets. Of these, 213 are stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Coinbase International lists 131, of which 34 are real-world assets. If you trade perps on stocks, gold and FX, Binance has more of them on one exchange.

Binance offers up to 150x on its highest-leverage market and Coinbase International up to 50x. Most markets on both allow less. A Binance futures account under 30 days old is capped at 20x.

Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. Coinbase International pays it every hour on every market. Binance pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours, depending on the market. An hourly market settles 24 times a day and an 8-hour market three times. Check a market's interval before you hold a position through funding. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have, each one's funding rate and the spread between them.

Who can open an account?

Both exchanges require KYC. Binance requires verified KYC to deposit or trade. Coinbase International requires ID and a suitability check, and its perps are for eligible non-US countries, so US and UK retail traders are shut out. For Binance, check its own terms for your country.

Is there a token?

Binance's token is $BNB.

How should you read the numbers on this page?

Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions. The open interest row and chart above are therefore a like-for-like comparison of position size between the two. On arb.sh, open interest is the value of open positions, and some exchanges publish longs plus shorts, about twice a one-side count. That caveat does not apply to this pair.

Neither exchange publishes TVL, as is usual for centralized exchanges, so the TVL row and chart above are empty for both. For the cost, volume and funding figures, use the live Head to head table and charts, which refresh every minute. To see where funding differs between these two on a given coin, the funding arbitrage ranking lists every pair by spread.
