allMEXC vs Coinbase International: which to use
MEXC vs Coinbase International is two centralized exchanges with the same matching design and different limits. MEXC charges 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker, lists 1202 perp markets and allows up to 1000x. Coinbase International charges 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, lists 131 markets, allows up to 50x and pays funding every hour on every market. Both require KYC. Pick MEXC for a lower maker fee, more markets and higher leverage. Pick Coinbase International for hourly funding on every market.
How each exchange is built
MEXC is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Coinbase International is also a CEX with an account that holds your funds. Both match orders on a central limit order book, so you trade against a public book of resting orders on each.
Fees and what they mean
MEXC's base tier is 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker, read from MEXC's API, which has no fee page to link. Coinbase International's base tier is 2 bp maker and 4 bp taker, per Coinbase International's fee page.
The taker rate is the same on both: 4 bp. A market order pays it to open and again to close, so a round trip costs 8 bp in fees on either exchange. The maker rate differs. A limit order that rests on the book and is filled later pays 1 bp on MEXC and 2 bp on Coinbase International. If you enter and exit with limit orders, MEXC's fee is half.
Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above includes both, and the execution cost page compares the cost across exchanges.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026 MEXC lists 1202 active perpetual markets, 93 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Coinbase International lists 131, 34 of them real-world assets. MEXC has more markets in total and more real-world asset markets. Coinbase International's real-world assets make up a larger share of its smaller list.
MEXC offers up to 1000x on its highest-leverage market and Coinbase International up to 50x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the limit on the market you trade.
Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts of a perp. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. Coinbase International pays funding every hour on every market. MEXC pays every 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours or 24 hours depending on the market. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times, and a 24-hour market once. A position held across a payment owes or earns that payment, so check the interval of each MEXC market before you hold it. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have, each one's funding rate and the Net 7d figure for your position size.
Who can use them
Both exchanges require KYC. MEXC has required KYC before trading since February 2026, and unverified accounts see market data only. Coinbase International asks for ID and a suitability check. Its perps are for eligible non-US countries and are closed to US and UK retail traders.
Token
MEXC's token is $MX.
Reading the numbers on this page
Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions, so the open interest row and chart above compare like with like. Neither publishes TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart carry no figure for either.
The Head to head table highlights the better figure of each row, and the volume and open interest charts show how the two compare over 30 days, 90 days or a year. Those figures are live and change every minute, so read them above rather than here.
Which one fits you
- Pick MEXC if you place limit orders: its 1 bp maker fee is half of Coinbase International's 2 bp.
- Pick MEXC if you want a wider choice of markets: 1202 against 131, with 93 real-world asset markets against 34.
- Pick MEXC if you need more than 50x, as it offers up to 1000x on its highest-leverage market.
- Pick Coinbase International if you want every market on an hourly funding schedule, so every position settles funding 24 times a day.
- Pick Coinbase International if you want one funding interval across all its markets, so you do not check each market's schedule before you hold.
