MEXC or Deribit: which to use

MEXC vs Deribit is two centralized exchanges with the same build and different terms. MEXC charges 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker, lists 1202 perp markets and offers up to 1000x. Deribit charges 1.5 bp maker and 3.5 bp taker, lists 134 markets and offers up to 50x. Deribit pays funding every hour on every market, while MEXC's interval is 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours depending on the market. Fees, market count, maximum leverage and funding interval decide it for most traders.

How each exchange is built

MEXC is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Deribit is built the same way. Both match orders on a central limit order book, so you trade against resting orders from other participants.

Fees and what they mean

We read the base-tier fees from each exchange's API, and neither has a fee page to link. MEXC charges 1 bp (0.01%) maker and 4 bp (0.04%) taker. Deribit charges 1.5 bp (0.015%) maker and 3.5 bp (0.035%) taker.

A market order pays the taker fee on entry and again on exit. That is 8 bp per round trip on MEXC and 7 bp on Deribit. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 1 bp on MEXC and 1.5 bp on Deribit. If you mostly post limit orders, MEXC's maker rate is lower. If you mostly cross the spread, Deribit's taker rate is lower.

The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds both at each size from $1k to $5M. Trading cost on every exchange is compared on one page.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 MEXC lists 1202 active perpetual markets, 93 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Deribit lists 134, of which 34 are real-world assets. MEXC has more markets in total and more real-world asset markets in absolute terms. Deribit has the larger share of real-world assets in its book.

MEXC offers up to 1000x on its highest-leverage market, and Deribit up to 50x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap on the market you plan to trade.

Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. Deribit pays it every hour on every market, so a position settles 24 times a day. MEXC pays every 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours depending on the market. A 24-hour market settles once a day and a 4-hour market six times. Check the interval before you hold a position over several settlements. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have, with each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

MEXC requires KYC before trading, a rule in place since February 2026. An unverified account sees market data only.

Deribit requires KYC before any deposit: ID, proof of address and a financial profile. It is closed to the US, Canada, Japan and retail UK clients.

Token

MEXC's token is $MX.

Reading the numbers on this page

Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions. The open interest row and chart above are therefore a like-for-like comparison of size, with no doubling on either side.

Neither exchange publishes TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange. The TVL row and chart have nothing to compare for this pair. Volume, depth and funding are read live from each exchange, so use the Head to head table above for today's figures. For BTC specifically, the BTC page lists every exchange that carries it.

Which one fits you

  • Pick MEXC if you trade with limit orders: its maker rate is 1 bp against Deribit's 1.5 bp.
  • Pick MEXC if you want the widest list of markets: 1202 perps as of 1 October 2026.
  • Pick MEXC if you want more real-world asset perps: 93 stocks, commodities, FX and other markets against 34.
  • Pick MEXC if you need leverage above 50x: it goes up to 1000x on its highest-leverage market.
  • Pick Deribit if you trade mostly with market orders: its taker rate is 3.5 bp against 4 bp, or 7 bp against 8 bp per round trip.
  • Pick Deribit if you want hourly funding on every market, so the interval never changes between markets.
