More comparisons
allGate or Deribit: which to use
Gate vs Deribit is two centralized exchanges that both hold your funds in an account and match on an order book. Deribit charges less: 1.5 bp maker and 3.5 bp taker against Gate's 2 bp and 5 bp. Deribit also pays funding every hour on every market. Gate lists 1022 perp markets against Deribit's 134, with up to 200x leverage against 50x. Pick Gate for market count, real-world assets and leverage. Pick Deribit for lower fees and a single hourly funding interval.
How each exchange is built
Gate is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It matches orders on a central limit order book.
Deribit is built the same way: an account at the company holds your funds, and orders match on a central limit order book. The build does not separate them, so the choice rests on fees, markets, leverage, funding and access.
What the fees mean for your orders
Gate's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per Gate's fee announcement. Deribit's base tier is 1.5 bp maker and 3.5 bp taker. We read Deribit's rates from its API, so there is no fee page to link.
A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close. That is 10 bp per round trip on Gate and 7 bp on Deribit. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead: 2 bp on Gate and 1.5 bp on Deribit. If you mostly post limit orders, the gap is 0.5 bp per side. If you mostly take liquidity, it is 1.5 bp per side.
The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above adds the measured slippage to the fee at each size from $1k to $5M. Trading cost on every exchange is also compared on one page.
Markets, leverage and funding
As of 1 October 2026 Gate has 1022 active perp markets, 301 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Deribit has 134, with 34 real-world assets. Gate has about 7.6 times as many markets overall and about 8.9 times as many real-world ones.
Gate offers up to 200x on its highest-leverage market. Deribit offers up to 50x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap on the market you plan to trade before you size a position.
Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. Deribit pays it every hour on every market. Gate pays every hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. An hourly market settles 24 times a day and an 8-hour market three times. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate. The funding spread ranking covers every pair on every asset.
Access and KYC
Both exchanges require KYC. Gate asks for it before the futures account opens. Until you verify, the account can only withdraw and close positions.
Deribit asks for ID, proof of address and a financial profile before any deposit. It is closed to the US, Canada, Japan and retail UK clients. Check these rules before you plan to move funds, because Deribit's checks come before the first deposit.
Token
Gate's token is $GT. This page shows the token and points status of each exchange in the Head to head table.
Reading the numbers on this page
Gate publishes open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. Deribit publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions, Gate's figure reads about twice as large. The open interest row and the open interest chart above are therefore not a like-for-like comparison of size. The share chart built on them inherits the same gap. Volume does not carry this caveat.
Neither exchange has a TVL row or chart, because centralized exchanges publish none. The TVL row will be empty for both, and that says nothing about size.
