Bybit or MEXC: which to use

Bybit vs MEXC is two centralized exchanges, both with a central limit order book, so the choice rests on fees, leverage and rules. Bybit charges 2 bp maker and 5.5 bp taker, offers up to 150x and lists 237 real-world asset perps. MEXC charges 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker, offers up to 1000x and lists 1202 perps in total. Both require KYC before you trade. Pick MEXC for lower base fees, more markets and higher leverage. Pick Bybit for more stock and commodity perps and fewer funding intervals.

How each exchange is built

Bybit and MEXC are both centralized exchanges (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Both match orders on a central limit order book.

Fees and what they mean

Bybit's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5.5 bp taker, per Bybit's fee page. MEXC's base tier is 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker. We read MEXC's rates from its API, because it has no fee page to link.

A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close: 11 bp per round trip on Bybit and 8 bp on MEXC. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 2 bp on Bybit and 1 bp on MEXC.

The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the fee and slippage at each size from $1k to $5M, and the execution cost page compares trading cost across exchanges.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Bybit lists 857 active perps, 237 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. MEXC lists 1202, 93 of them real-world assets. Bybit has more real-world asset markets, and MEXC has more markets overall.

Bybit allows up to 150x on its highest-leverage market and MEXC up to 1000x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the limit on the market you want.

Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. Bybit pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. MEXC adds a 24-hour interval to those. An hourly market settles 24 times a day and an 8-hour market three times, so a rate quoted per interval is not comparable across markets until you adjust for how often it is paid. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

KYC is required on both. Bybit makes standard verification mandatory for every product. MEXC has required KYC before trading since February 2026, and unverified accounts see market data only.

Token

MEXC's token is $MX.

Reading the numbers on this page

Bybit publishes open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. MEXC publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Bybit's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above are not a like-for-like comparison of size.

Neither exchange publishes TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart on the page have no figure for either one.

For the funding and fee sides of a pair trade, the funding arbitrage page ranks pairs by spread and Net 7d.

Which one fits you

  • Pick Bybit if you want the larger set of stock, commodity and FX perps: 237 against 93.
  • Pick Bybit if you prefer funding on at most 8 hours, since MEXC adds a 24-hour interval on some markets.
  • Pick Bybit if 150x is enough leverage and you want a published fee page to check rates against.
  • Pick MEXC if you trade with market orders and want the lower rate: 4 bp taker against 5.5 bp.
  • Pick MEXC if you rest limit orders and want 1 bp maker against 2 bp.
  • Pick MEXC if you need more markets, 1202 against 857, or leverage above 150x.
