Gate or MEXC: which to use

Gate vs MEXC is two centralized exchanges with the same build, so the choice rests on fees, markets, leverage and funding. Gate charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, lists 301 real-world asset perps as of 1 October 2026, and goes up to 200x. MEXC charges 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker, lists 1202 perp markets as of 1 October 2026, and goes up to 1000x. Both require KYC. Pick Gate for more stocks and commodities. Pick MEXC for lower fees, more markets and higher leverage.

How each exchange is built

Gate is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. MEXC is built the same way. Both match orders on a central limit order book, and on each your balance sits in an account at the company.

Fees and what they mean

Gate's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per Gate's fee announcement. MEXC's base tier is 1 bp maker and 4 bp taker. We read MEXC's rates from its API, and it has no fee page to link.

A market order pays the taker fee on entry and again on exit: 10 bp per round trip on Gate, 8 bp on MEXC. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 2 bp on Gate and 1 bp on MEXC.

The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the taker fee twice and the slippage we measure from each exchange's live order book at each size from $1k to $5M. Every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Gate has 1022 active perpetual markets, 301 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. MEXC has 1202, of which 93 are real-world assets. MEXC has more markets in total, and Gate has more real-world asset markets.

Gate offers up to 200x on its highest-leverage market and MEXC up to 1000x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap of the market you plan to trade.

Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. Gate pays it every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. MEXC pays every 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours or 24 hours. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times, and a 24-hour market once. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

Both require KYC. Gate asks for it before the futures account opens, and unverified accounts can only withdraw and close positions. MEXC has required KYC before trading since February 2026, and unverified accounts see market data only.

Tokens

Gate's token is $GT. MEXC's token is $MX.

Reading the numbers on this page

Gate publishes open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. MEXC publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Gate's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above are not a like-for-like comparison of size.

Neither exchange has a TVL figure, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart show nothing for this pair. To compare activity, use the volume chart above and the Head to head table. For funding spreads across exchange pairs, the funding arbitrage page ranks every pair by spread.

Which one fits you

  • Pick Gate if you want stocks, commodities, FX and other real-world assets: 301 markets as of 1 October 2026, against 93 on MEXC.
  • Pick Gate if you want a funding schedule of 1, 4 or 8 hours on every market, with no 24-hour interval.
  • Pick MEXC if you trade with market orders: 4 bp taker against 5 bp.
  • Pick MEXC if you rest limit orders: 1 bp maker against 2 bp.
  • Pick MEXC if you want more markets in total: 1202 against 1022.
  • Pick MEXC if you need leverage above 200x on a market that allows it, up to 1000x.
