Gate or HTX: which to use

Gate vs HTX is two centralized exchanges with the same order-book matching and the same 200x top leverage. Gate charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, and lists 1022 perp markets. HTX charges 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker, lists 370 markets, and lets you start trading without ID, inside limits. Gate requires KYC before its futures account opens. Fees, market count and ID rules decide it for most traders: Gate for the lower taker fee and wider choice, HTX for starting without ID.

How each exchange is built

Gate is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It matches orders on a central limit order book. HTX is built the same way, a CEX with an account that holds your funds and a central limit order book. Because the setup is the same, the differences sit in fees, markets and access.

Fees and what they mean

Gate's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per Gate's fee announcement. HTX's base tier is 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker, per HTX's fee page.

A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close: 10 bp per round trip on Gate, 12 bp on HTX. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 2 bp on both. If you mostly post limit orders, the fee gap disappears. If you use market orders, it is 1 bp per side.

Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above adds slippage to the fee at each size, which the fee alone does not show.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Gate lists 1022 active perps, 301 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. HTX lists 370, of which 251 are real-world assets. Gate has more markets overall. HTX has fewer markets, but a larger share of them are real-world assets, and Gate has more of them in absolute terms.

Both offer up to 200x on their highest-leverage markets, and most markets allow less. Both pay funding every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. Check a market's interval before you hold it: an hourly market settles 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

Gate requires KYC before the futures account opens. An unverified account can only withdraw and close positions.

HTX limits accounts without ID: trading starts without ID, inside limits that verification lifts. For accounts opened since 2026-03-30, no ID means futures up to 5x and no API trading. More leverage and the API need level-2 KYC.

Tokens

Gate's token is $GT. HTX's token is $HTX.

Reading the numbers on this page

Gate publishes open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. HTX publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Gate's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above are not a like-for-like comparison of size.

Neither exchange has a TVL row or chart, as is usual for a centralized exchange. Volume, depth and funding are live in the Head to head table above. For a single coin, the BTC page lists funding and liquidity on every exchange that has it, and the funding matrix shows every asset.

Which one fits you

  • Pick Gate if you trade with market orders: 5 bp taker against 6 bp.
  • Pick Gate if you want the wider choice: 1022 perp markets against 370.
  • Pick Gate if you want more stock, commodity and FX perps in absolute terms: 301 against 251.
  • Pick HTX if you want to start trading without ID, inside limits.
  • Pick HTX if you work mostly with limit orders: 2 bp maker, the same as Gate.
  • Pick HTX if you want a list where real-world assets are a larger share of the markets, 251 of 370.
