Bybit or Gate: which to use

Bybit vs Gate is two centralized exchanges with near-identical rules, so the choice rests on small differences. Gate charges 5 bp taker against Bybit's 5.5 bp, lists 1022 perp markets against 857, and allows up to 200x against 150x. Both charge 2 bp maker, and both require KYC. Bybit's verification is mandatory for every product. Gate's is required before the futures account opens. Pick Gate for the wider market list, higher leverage and lower taker fee. Pick Bybit if its fee schedule and account setup suit you.

How each exchange is built

Bybit and Gate are both centralized exchanges (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Both match orders on a central limit order book. For the trader this means the same setup on either side: an account at a company, and a public book you trade against.

What the fees are and what they mean

Bybit's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5.5 bp taker, per Bybit's fee page. Gate's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per Gate's fee announcement. One basis point (bp) is 0.01% of the position.

A market order pays the taker fee on entry and again on exit. That is 11 bp per round trip on Bybit and 10 bp on Gate. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 2 bp on both, so the fee gap between them applies only to market orders.

The fee is only part of the cost. Slippage, the price you move by eating through the order book, grows with size and depends on each book's depth. The cost table above adds the taker fee twice and the measured slippage at each size from $1k to $5M. Every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.

How many markets and how much leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Bybit has 857 active perpetual markets, 237 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Gate has 1022, 301 of them real-world assets. Gate has 165 more markets in total and 64 more in the real-world asset group.

Bybit allows up to 150x on its highest-leverage market and Gate up to 200x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap of the market you trade before sizing a position.

Both pay funding every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours, depending on the market. Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. An hourly market settles 24 times a day and an 8-hour market three times. A rate that looks large on a short interval adds up faster, so read the interval next to the rate. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have, with each one's funding rate and the spread between them. It also lists the assets only one of them has.

What each exchange asks before you trade

Bybit requires KYC. Standard verification is mandatory for every product.

Gate requires KYC before the futures account opens. An unverified Gate account can only withdraw and close positions, so it cannot open new ones.

On either exchange, plan for verification before you fund an account you mean to trade.

Which token comes with Gate

Gate's token is $GT.

Reading the numbers on this page

Both exchanges publish open interest as longs plus shorts, both sides of every position. That is about twice a one-side count. Because both use the same method, the open interest row and chart above compare like for like between these two. Set against an exchange that publishes one side, either figure would read about twice as large.

Neither exchange has a TVL row or chart, as is usual for a centralized exchange. Leave that row aside for this pair and use the volume and open interest charts for size instead. The cost table is measured by us from each exchange's live order book, so it shows slippage that the fee rates alone do not.

Which one fits you

  • Pick Gate if you trade with market orders: 5 bp taker against 5.5 bp is 10 bp against 11 bp per round trip.
  • Pick Gate if you need a wider market list: 1022 perps, 301 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets.
  • Pick Gate if you want up to 200x on your highest-leverage market, or want the $GT token.
