allVariational Omni vs OKX: which to use
Variational Omni vs OKX is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. Variational Omni runs on Arbitrum, takes no ID, charges 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, and prices each trade by request-for-quote, up to 50x. OKX requires advanced verification before you trade, deposit or withdraw. It holds your funds in an account, charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, and matches on a central limit order book, up to 100x. Custody, ID and the taker fee decide it for most traders: pick Variational Omni for a wallet and 0 bp fees, OKX for an account, an order book and higher leverage.
How each exchange is built
Variational Omni is a decentralized exchange (DEX) on Arbitrum. You trade from a self-custody wallet. It has no public order book: a market maker quotes each trade.
OKX is a centralized exchange (CEX). You open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. Orders match on a central limit order book.
For the trader, this means two things. On Variational Omni your funds stay in your wallet, and the price you get is the quote you are shown. On OKX your funds sit in an account, and the price comes from resting orders on the book.
Fees and what they mean
Variational Omni's base tier is 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, per its fee documentation. OKX's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per OKX's perpetual futures guide.
A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close. That is 0 bp per round trip on Variational Omni and 10 bp on OKX. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 2 bp on OKX.
Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the taker fee twice to the slippage we read from each exchange's live order book at each size from $1k to $5M. A 0 bp fee does not mean a free trade. Every exchange's trading cost is compared on a separate page.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026 Variational Omni lists 557 active perps, 121 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. OKX lists 480, with 191 in that group. Variational Omni has more markets overall, and OKX has more real-world asset markets.
Variational Omni offers up to 50x on its highest-leverage market and OKX up to 100x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap for the market you trade.
Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. Variational Omni pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. OKX pays every 4 hours or 8 hours. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, a 4-hour market six times and an 8-hour market three times. A position held for a day therefore sees more, smaller payments on an hourly market. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.
Who can use them
Variational Omni asks for no ID. It is not for US or Canadian persons, Taiwan or sanctioned regions. OKX requires advanced verification before trading, deposits or withdrawals.

Reading the numbers on this page
Open interest is the value of open positions, and the two exchanges publish it differently. Variational Omni publishes the sum of traders' longs and shorts, counted against a pool or dealer, which is about twice a one-side count. OKX publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Variational Omni's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above do not compare size like for like.
The TVL row and chart show nothing for either exchange. DefiLlama has no figure for Variational Omni, and a centralized exchange like OKX publishes none. For a like-for-like view of cost, use the cost table, which measures what a market order costs at each position size. If you trade funding spreads across the pair, the funding arbitrage ranking shows Paid 7d and Net 7d for every pair.
