More comparisons
allVariational Omni or edgeX: which to use
Variational Omni vs edgeX comes down to fees, matching and leverage. Variational Omni charges 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, and a market maker quotes each trade, so there is no public order book. edgeX charges 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker on a central limit order book and allows up to 100x, against 50x on Variational Omni. Neither asks for ID. Pick Variational Omni for zero base fees and the larger market list. Pick edgeX for a public book, higher leverage and a $EDGE token.
How each exchange is built
Both are decentralized exchanges (DEX): you trade from a self-custody wallet, not from an account held by a company. Variational Omni runs on Arbitrum. edgeX runs on its own chain, edgeX L2.
The matching differs. Variational Omni uses request-for-quote: a market maker quotes each trade, and there is no public order book. edgeX uses a central limit order book, so resting orders sit on a public book until they are filled. On edgeX you can see the book and place a limit order in it. On Variational Omni you take the quote you are given.
Fees and what they mean
Variational Omni's base tier is 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, per Variational's fee page. edgeX's base tier is 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker, per edgeX's fee page.
On edgeX, a market order pays the taker fee on entry and again on exit, so a round trip costs 9 bp in fees before anything else. A limit order that rests on the book pays the 4 bp maker fee instead. Variational Omni charges no base fee on either side.
The fee is only part of a trade's cost. On an order book the rest is slippage, the price you move by eating through the book, which grows with size; on Variational Omni it is the distance between its quote and the market. The cost table above adds both at each size, and every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026, Variational Omni lists 557 active perps, 121 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. edgeX lists 179, 107 of them real-world assets.
Variational Omni allows up to 50x on its highest-leverage market and edgeX up to 100x; most markets on both allow less. Funding on Variational Omni is paid every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. edgeX pays every 4 hours on every market. A 1-hour market settles funding 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times, and edgeX six. Check the interval of each market you hold. The markets both exchanges list are further down this page, with each one's funding rate.
Who can use them
Neither exchange asks for ID. Variational Omni is closed to US and Canadian persons, Taiwan and sanctioned regions. edgeX takes a wallet or MPC login and is closed to US and Ontario residents and sanctioned countries. edgeX also forbids VPNs.
Vaults, tokens and points
Neither exchange runs a vault that arb.sh tracks. Variational Omni has no token yet. edgeX's token is $EDGE. As of 19 September 2026, both exchanges had a points and airdrop program with the status "Active". The airdrops page tracks programs and launched tokens.
Reading the numbers on this page
Variational Omni publishes open interest as the sum of traders' longs and shorts against a pool or dealer, about twice a one-side count. edgeX publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions, Variational Omni's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above are not a like-for-like comparison of size.
Variational Omni has no TVL row or chart, because DefiLlama has no figure for it. The TVL for edgeX is DefiLlama's figure for the deposits its bridge holds. Variational Omni has no public order book, so there is no book to read on that side.
