More comparisons
alledgeX or OKX: which to use
edgeX vs OKX is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On edgeX you trade from a self-custody wallet without ID, at 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker. OKX requires advanced verification before you trade, deposit or withdraw, holds your funds in an account, and charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker. Both offer up to 100x. OKX lists more markets, while edgeX pays funding every 4 hours on all of them. Custody, ID and maker versus taker fees decide it for most traders.
How each exchange is built
edgeX is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that runs on edgeX L2. You trade from a self-custody wallet, with a wallet or MPC login. It matches orders on a central limit order book.
OKX is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It also matches orders on a central limit order book.
For the trader, the difference is custody. On edgeX your funds stay in your wallet until you deposit them to trade. On OKX they sit in your account at the company. Both match on a central limit order book, so the matching model does not separate them.
Fees and what they mean
edgeX's base tier is 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker, per edgeX's fee page. OKX's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per OKX's fee page.
A market order pays the taker fee on entry and again on exit: 9 bp per round trip on edgeX and 10 bp on OKX. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 4 bp on edgeX and 2 bp on OKX. So edgeX has the lower rate for market orders, and OKX has the lower rate for limit orders.
The fee is only part of the cost. Slippage is the price moved by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above includes both at each size, and every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026 edgeX lists 179 active perpetual markets, 107 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. OKX lists 480, 191 of them real-world assets. Both exchanges allow up to 100x on their highest-leverage market, and most markets allow less.
edgeX pays funding every 4 hours on every market. OKX pays every 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. A 4-hour market settles 6 times a day and an 8-hour market 3 times, so check a market's interval before you hold a position through funding. The list of markets both exchanges have, further down this page, shows each one's funding rate and the spread between them.
Who can use them
edgeX asks for no ID: a wallet or MPC login works. It is closed to US and Ontario residents and to sanctioned countries, and it forbids VPNs. OKX requires advanced verification before trading, deposits or withdrawals.
Tokens and points
edgeX's token is $EDGE, and as of 19 September 2026 its points and airdrop program was "Active". You can follow points programs and token launches on one page. OKX's token is $OKB.
Reading the numbers on this page
Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions, so the open interest row and chart above compare like with like.
OKX publishes no TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange. The TVL row and chart therefore show edgeX alone, as DefiLlama's figure for the deposits its bridge holds. Volume and cost figures update every minute, so read them in the Head to head table rather than from this text.
