More comparisons
alledgeX or KuCoin: which to use
edgeX vs KuCoin is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On edgeX you trade from a self-custody wallet without ID, at 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker, with up to 100x. KuCoin requires ID and a face check, holds your funds in an account, and charges 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker, with up to 125x. KuCoin lists 686 perp markets against edgeX's 179, though 107 of edgeX's markets are real-world assets. Custody, ID and whether you trade with market orders or limit orders decide it for most traders.
How each exchange is built
edgeX is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that runs on edgeX L2. You trade from a self-custody wallet, and you can log in with a wallet or with MPC. It matches orders on a central limit order book.
KuCoin is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It also matches orders on a central limit order book.
The matching is the same on both. The difference is custody. On edgeX the wallet holds your funds. On KuCoin you deposit into the account and trade from there.
Fees and what they mean
edgeX's base tier is 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker, per edgeX's fee source. KuCoin's base tier is 2 bp maker and 6 bp taker, per KuCoin's futures fee announcement. A basis point (bp) is 0.01% of the position.
A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close. That is 9 bp per round trip on edgeX and 12 bp on KuCoin. A limit order that rests on the book and is filled later pays the maker fee instead: 4 bp on edgeX and 2 bp on KuCoin. So the lower fee depends on the order type. If you mostly take liquidity, edgeX's rate is lower. If you mostly rest orders on the book, KuCoin's is.
The fee is only part of a trade's cost. Slippage is the price you move by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above adds the taker fee twice and the slippage read from each live book at every size. Trading cost on every exchange is compared on one page.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026, edgeX lists 179 active perpetual markets, 107 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. KuCoin lists 686, 159 of them real-world assets. edgeX has fewer markets overall but a larger share of its list in non-crypto assets. KuCoin has more markets in total and more real-world asset markets in absolute terms.
edgeX offers up to 100x on its highest-leverage market and KuCoin up to 125x. Most markets on both allow less, so check the cap of the specific market before you size a position.
Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts of a perp. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. edgeX pays funding every 4 hours on every market. KuCoin pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, a 4-hour market 6 times and an 8-hour market 3 times. If you hold a position across several settlements, the interval changes how often a payment lands, so read it for each market. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have, with each one's funding rate and the spread between them.
Who can use them
edgeX asks for no ID: a wallet or MPC login is enough. It is closed to residents of the US and Ontario and to sanctioned countries, and it forbids VPNs. KuCoin requires standard KYC, an ID and a face check, for any product, and has done so since August 2023.
Tokens and points
edgeX's token is $EDGE, and as of 19 September 2026 its points program status was "Active". Points programs and token launches are listed on one page. edgeX has no vault run by the exchange that arb.sh tracks. KuCoin's token is $KCS.
Reading the numbers on this page
Both exchanges publish open interest as one side of open positions, so the open interest row and chart above compare like with like. Exchanges that publish longs plus shorts would read about twice as large, but that does not apply to this pair.
KuCoin publishes no TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart show edgeX alone. That figure is DefiLlama's number for the deposits its bridge holds. It is not a measure of KuCoin's size, and KuCoin has no TVL to compare.
When you compare edgeX vs KuCoin on funding, use the funding chart and the markets list further down this page rather than a single rate. Rates move, and the Net 7d column subtracts a round trip on both exchanges at your position size from the funding the pair paid. The funding arbitrage ranking shows the same measure for every pair.
