allVariational Omni or Bybit: which to use
Variational Omni vs Bybit is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On Variational Omni you trade from a self-custody wallet without ID, at 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, with up to 50x. Bybit requires standard verification for every product, holds your funds in an account, and charges 2 bp maker and 5.5 bp taker, with up to 150x. As of 1 October 2026 Bybit lists more perpetual markets, 857 against 557. Custody, ID and the fee on market orders are the main differences.
How each exchange is built
Variational Omni is a decentralized exchange (DEX) on Arbitrum. You trade from a self-custody wallet. It matches by request-for-quote: a market maker quotes each trade, and there is no public order book. The price you get is the quote, so there is no book depth to read before you trade.
Bybit is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It matches orders on a central limit order book, so you see resting bids and asks and can place a limit order on the book.
Fees and what they mean
Variational Omni's base tier is 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, per its fee page. Bybit's base tier is 2 bp maker and 5.5 bp taker, per its fee page.
A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close. That is 0 bp per round trip on Variational Omni and 11 bp on Bybit. A maker fee applies when an order rests on the book and is filled later: 2 bp on Bybit. Variational Omni's maker fee is 0 bp, but it has no public order book, so its quotes are the way in.
The fee is only part of the cost. Slippage is the price moved by eating through the order book, and it grows with size. The cost table above adds the fee and the slippage we measure ourselves at each size from $1k to $5M, so a 0 bp fee does not mean a free trade.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026 Bybit has 857 active perpetual markets, 237 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Variational Omni has 557, of which 121 are real-world assets.
Bybit allows up to 150x and Variational Omni up to 50x on their highest-leverage markets. Most markets on both allow less.
Both exchanges pay funding every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. Funding is the periodic payment between longs and shorts, and a positive rate means longs pay shorts. An hourly market settles 24 times a day and an 8-hour market three times, so check a market's interval before you hold it. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.
Who can use them
Variational Omni asks for no ID. It is not for US or Canadian persons, Taiwan or sanctioned regions. Bybit requires standard verification for every product.
Points and tokens
Variational Omni has no token yet. As of 19 September 2026 its points and airdrop program was "Active". The airdrops page lists the programs running and the tokens launched. Variational Omni runs no vault that arb.sh tracks.
Reading the numbers on this page
Both exchanges publish open interest as longs plus shorts, so each figure reads about twice a one-side count. On Variational Omni it is the sum of traders' longs and shorts against a pool or dealer. Because both count the same way, the open interest row compares like with like.
Neither exchange has a TVL row or chart. DefiLlama has no figure for Variational Omni, and centralized exchanges such as Bybit publish none. Variational Omni's request-for-quote pricing also means there is no public book depth to compare with Bybit's order book.
