More comparisons
alledgeX vs Gate: which to use
edgeX vs Gate is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On edgeX you trade from your own wallet without ID, at 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker and up to 100x. Gate requires KYC before the futures account opens, holds your funds in an account, and charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, with up to 200x. Gate lists 1022 perp markets and edgeX 179. Custody, ID and the maker fee are the main differences between them.
How each exchange is built
edgeX is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that runs on edgeX L2. You trade from a self-custody wallet, and you can log in with a wallet or MPC. It matches orders on a central limit order book.
Gate is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It also matches orders on a central limit order book.
For the trader, the difference is custody. On edgeX your funds stay in your wallet. On Gate they sit in an account at the company, and you sign in to that account.
Fees and what they mean
edgeX's base tier is 4 bp maker and 4.5 bp taker, per edgeX's fee page. Gate's is 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, per Gate's fee announcement.
A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close: 9 bp per round trip on edgeX, 10 bp on Gate. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, 4 bp on edgeX and 2 bp on Gate. If you mostly rest limit orders, the maker rate is the one to compare. If you mostly use market orders, the taker rate is.
Fees are only part of a trade's cost. Slippage, the price you move by eating through the order book, grows with size. The round trip in the cost table above adds both at each size, and every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.
Markets and leverage
As of 1 October 2026 Gate lists 1022 active perps, 301 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. edgeX lists 179, of which 107 are real-world assets. On edgeX, that is more than half of its markets.
edgeX allows up to 100x and Gate up to 200x on their highest-leverage markets; most markets allow less. edgeX pays funding every 4 hours on every market. Gate pays every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market, so check a market's interval before you hold it. A positive rate means longs pay shorts. An hourly market settles 24 times a day, a 4-hour market six times and an 8-hour market three times. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.
Who can use them
edgeX asks for no ID: a wallet or MPC login works. It is closed to residents of the US and Ontario and to sanctioned countries, and it forbids VPNs.
Gate requires KYC before the futures account opens. Unverified accounts can only withdraw and close positions.
Tokens and points
edgeX's token is $EDGE, and as of 19 September 2026 its points and airdrop program was "Active". The points programs page lists the programs running. Gate's token is $GT. edgeX has no vault that arb.sh tracks, and the vaults page shows the ones other exchanges run.
Reading the numbers on this page
edgeX publishes open interest as one side of open positions. Gate publishes longs plus shorts, both sides of every position, so its figure reads about twice as large for the same positions. The open interest row and chart above are therefore not a like-for-like comparison of size.
Gate publishes no TVL, as is usual for a centralized exchange, so the TVL row and chart show edgeX alone. That figure is DefiLlama's number for the deposits its bridge holds.
