Variational Omni vs Binance: which to use

Variational Omni vs Binance is a decentralized exchange against a centralized one. On Variational Omni you trade from a self-custody wallet without ID, at 0 bp maker and 0 bp taker, with up to 50x. Binance requires verified KYC to deposit or trade, holds your funds in an account, and charges 2 bp maker and 5 bp taker, with up to 150x. Binance lists more markets and higher leverage on a central limit order book. Variational Omni prices each trade through a market maker quote. Custody, ID and fees decide it for most traders.

How each exchange is built

Variational Omni is a decentralized exchange (DEX) on Arbitrum. You trade from a self-custody wallet. It uses request-for-quote matching: a market maker quotes each trade, and there is no public order book.

Binance is a centralized exchange (CEX): you open an account with the company, and the account holds your funds. It matches orders on a central limit order book.

Fees and what they mean

Variational Omni's base tier is 0 bp (0%) maker and 0 bp (0%) taker, per Variational's fee page. Binance's is 2 bp (0.02%) maker and 5 bp (0.05%) taker, per Binance's fee page. Binance's stock and commodity perps (TradFi perps) charge regular users 0 maker and 0.04% taker, "until further notice" as of 29 September 2026.

A market order pays the taker fee to open and again to close: 0 bp per round trip on Variational Omni, 10 bp on Binance's crypto perps. A limit order that rests on the book pays the maker fee instead, which is 2 bp on Binance. Variational Omni has no public order book, so its quote is the price you take.

The fee is only part of a trade's cost. On an order book the rest is slippage, the price you move by eating through the book, which grows with size; on Variational Omni it is the distance between its quote and the market. The cost table above adds both at each size, and every exchange's trading cost is compared on one page.

Markets and leverage

As of 1 October 2026 Binance lists 783 active perps, 213 of them stocks, commodities, FX or other real-world assets. Variational Omni lists 557, of which 121 are real-world assets.

Binance allows up to 150x and Variational Omni up to 50x on their highest-leverage markets; most markets allow less. A Binance futures account under 30 days old is capped at 20x.

Both exchanges pay funding every 1 hour, 4 hours or 8 hours depending on the market. Check a market's interval before you hold it: an hourly market settles 24 times a day, an 8-hour market three times, so the same rate accrues on a different schedule. The list further down this page shows the markets both exchanges have and each one's funding rate.

Who can use them

Variational Omni asks for no ID. It is not for US or Canadian persons, Taiwan or sanctioned regions. Binance requires verified KYC to deposit or trade.

Tokens and points

Variational Omni has no token yet, and as of 19 September 2026 its points and airdrop program was "Active". You can follow it on the airdrops page. Binance's token is $BNB. The exchange runs no vault that arb.sh tracks on Variational Omni's side.

Reading the numbers on this page

Variational Omni publishes open interest as the sum of traders' longs and shorts, against a pool or dealer. That is about twice a one-side count. Binance publishes one side of open positions. For the same positions Variational Omni's figure reads about twice as large, so the open interest row and chart above are not a like-for-like comparison of size.

Neither exchange has a TVL row or chart: DefiLlama has no figure for Variational Omni, and centralized exchanges such as Binance publish none.
